Utah, Dec. 23rd--An apparently delusional Scott Layden refuses to believe he’s been fired, according to sources who know him well.

Layden, whom management replaced last week with Isiah Thomas, the NBA hall-of-famer, continues to make phone calls around the league probing trade ideas. He also asserts confidence in his job security and with the team’s direction.

“I’m comfortable with what I’m seeing,” Layden told reporters Saturday, nearly a week after his dismissal. “I like our team. We’re improving.”

Layden reiterated his faith in Knicks’ head coach Don Chaney, whom many believe Thomas will release soon.

“Don’s done a great job. We’ve got no plans to fire him. In fact, I plan on re-upping his contract probably within the month.”

Chaney confirmed that he hears from Layden several times a day reassuring him that his position as head coach is secure.

“It’s comforting,” Chaney said, “but [Scott’s] not the GM anymore, so it’s confusing.”

Layden smiled when told of Chaney’s remarks. “I like our team. That’s all I’m saying. I like our team. And I like coach Chaney.”
