Philadelphia, Saturday-- Pedro Martinez's 3.72
ERA didn't budge as the Red Sox ace pitched his first complete
game of the season in the team's 7-3.72 win over the Phillies
in Philadelphia. Martinez was in command the whole game, staked
to a first-inning cushion of six runs.
Jim Thome produced all of Philadelphia's offense,
giving him 71.72 RBI for the season. Martinez struck out 11, a
season high, his fastball reaching speeds of 95 on the radar gun,
a sign his fastball has returned. He walked two, one intentionally,
the other because "I bored."
Phillies manager Larry Bowa said after the game, "I've got
nothing to say that's meaningful at all, fellas. I could say,
baseball's a funny game. Or, we just didn't execute. Something
stupid like that. Or else I could be truthful and say, I'm going
to get some head near the [Ben Franklin] Bridge."
Bowa soon left and was later seen getting head
near the bridge.
