Duke
University, April 4--Mike Krzyzewski, Duke's head basketball coach,
will have surgery to remove a consonant, perhaps two, from his
name in the next few weeks. Dr. James Andrews, who performs all
sports surgeries in the world, will do the procedure.
Depending on what he sees, Andrews may or not
opt to insert vowels. That will depend, said a spokesman for Andrews,
on Andrews' condition. The exhausted surgeon performs hundreds
of consultations and surgeries every day; thus, if overly fatigued,
he may decide to leave well enough alone.
However, if he feels energetic, Andrews may
decide to operate elsewhere on Krzyzewski, "as long as Mike's
still under [anasthesia]."
"He'll take out anything that can safely go,"
said the source. "Mike will feel lighter after the procedure.
Dr. Andrews guarantees it."
Krzyzewski has suffered with his difficult
name all his life, said a Duke University official, confidentially.
He is believed to be the only person in the world who can spell
it.
